Course Code:

EPG005
Course Name:

Project Delivery (QUT)
Course Description:

The aim of this unit is to provide students with a working knowledge of project management for the development and delivery of projects within a modern power plant environment.  It focuses on the "management" aspects of Project Delivery and its use within all facets of the project development cycle. This course is not a toolbox course but rather, it encourages participants to discuss and exchange views on the strategies and techniques used in managing projects within their own workplace environments.

This course provides an overview of the techniques and methods used by a project manager in the development of a project from the feasibility phase right through to completion and handover. The successful development and implementation of projects and the ability to appropriately manage the project and its contracts, whether related to plant equipment, maintenance or life-time extensions, including refurbishment of plant, can save vast resources and directly affect the environmental impact within a power generating facility.

The topics covered will include:
·         Project definitions
·         Project Feasibility and financing
·         Project risks
·         Project structure
·         Project control
·         Project procurement
·         Project quality assurance
·         Terms and conditions of contract

Your experience in the course will be enriched through a series of experiential learning activities through the complete project cycle to ensure that the following key learning outcomes are achieved:

·         Identify and evaluate key criteria for a feasibility study for a
         power station.
·         Structure a project proposal in order to seek management approval.
·         Identify the key risks that can impact on the project's success.
·         Structure the project so that it can be managed effectively.
·         Effectively manage a project for plant installation, refurbishment and
        disposal.
·         Manage the resources within the management team including sub-
        contractors.
